Foods To Boost Immune System

by Body Goods Nutrition Admin on August 31, 2021

You might know that vitamins are great for strengthening the immune system but do you know what vitamins are the best? Let’s break down the big 3 immune system boosters: Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin E.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is popular as an immune system booster for good reason. Vitamin C is thought to increase production of white blood cells which help to fight off infections. Lack of vitamin C can also actually make you more prone to getting sick. And to make it even more essential, our body does not produce or store it so we must intake it daily. Good news is that vitamin C is in many foods such as citrus fruits like grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, limes, and lemons. But if you thought that vitamin C is only found in citrus fruits then I have a surprise. Ounce for ounce, vitamin C is almost twice as high in red bell peppers! Besides being great for the immune system, vitamin C may also help to maintain healthy skin.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is another big player in boosting the immune system. It is vital in supporting biochemical reactions that happen in the immune system as well as other vital functions of the body. Those functions also include reducing stress. Foods highest in vitamin B6 are salmon, tuna, chicken, chicken liver, beef, carrots, spinach, avocados, and bananas.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a group of antioxidants that help to protect cells. It is essential to keep the body functioning properly. Like with vitamin C, a lack of vitamin E will make you more prone to infections. A lack of vitamin E will also make you more prone to experiencing impaired eyesight and suffering from muscle weakness. The good news is that vitamin E is found in many foods such as sunflower seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, salmon, avocado, trout, brazil nuts, spinach, broccoli, and mangos.

Keep these in mind and add them to your cart next time you find yourself grocery shopping. Also if you want an easier way to get all your vitamins and nutrients, check out or Wellness category. You can find several options to help you function optimally every day.
